HWRHS Music Students take in the Boston Symphony Orchestra Open Rehearsal

On Thurs, Mar 27th, 68 HWRHS Concert Band and Concert Choir students took in an open rehearsal by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Students heard a pre-rehearsal talk featuring James Somerville, principal horn of the BSO. The musicians of the BSO entered, tuned up, and the rehearsal began with Vaughan Williams’ 6th Symphony. Students listened with rapt attention and enjoyed the performance! We then walked across the street and took a tour of the New England Conservatory, led by one of their percussion majors. A thoroughly enjoyable and educational field trip.

MRMS 6th student adds her voice to first ever Elementary All-State Chorus

Sixth grader Kate Rubel rehearsed and performed with 190 of the best singers in grades 4-6 from all around the Commonwealth. On Saturday, March 20-22, Kate rehearsed at the Seaport Hotel ballroom under the direction of Henry Leck, retired Director of Choral Activities at Butler University and founder of the reknown Indianapolis Childrens Chorus. Her many hours of rehearsal culminated in a grand concert for parents in the ballroom. Congratulations Kate!

HWRHS students add their voices to All-State Chorus

Three HWRHS Juniors were rehearsed and performed with 260 of the best high school singers in the Commonwealth. This is the greatest honor a high school vocalist can achieve. Over March 20-22, these student rehearsed at the Seaport World Trade Center under the direction of Jerry McCoy, Director of Choral Activities at University of North Texas. Their many hours of rehearsal culminated in a grand concert at Symphony Hall in Boston. Congratulations to Remy Beauregard, bass, Katelyn McCarthy and Emily Preston, altos.

On Thurs, March 20th, 10 male singers from MRMS took part in a special opportunity. We were invited to participate in the MMEA (Massachusetts Music Educators Association) convention at the World Trade Center in Boston to serve as a demo group of “real life middle school male singers”. They sang for and worked with Henry Leck, a rather famous clinician/conductor of young voices, especially boys. He is retired Director of Choral Activities at Butler University and the Artistic Director of the Indianapolis Children’s Chorus. The session was attended by more than 100 music educators from around the Commonwealth. MRMS singers who participated were: Trent Blatz, Domenic Brown, Xander Favazza, Nick Greco, Broderick Kelly, Alex Renaud, Connor Ryan, Chris Shepard, Dennis van Maaren, and Ryan Woodin.

Mr. Leck worked with our boys, showing off their ranges and showing the educators strategies to develop all ranges of the changing male voice, not just the low notes. Mr. Leck complimented Ryan Woodin publically for thanking him after the session.
